Stone Object Packing: Actual & Volumetric Weight
A compact stone object and its shipping carton are different measurements. An early packing estimate can help compare options, but a physical packed sample is needed to establish the actual weight and outer dimensions used for a transport quotation.

Keep each measurement separate
Net weight refers to the object itself. Packed actual weight includes the agreed protection and shipping packaging. Outer carton dimensions describe the packed parcel, not just the product or its presentation box.
The product reference pages currently show proposed sizes and planning weight estimates. These remain estimates until the physical sample and packing are measured. They are not measured shipment records.
| Record | Before sampling | After measurement |
|---|---|---|
| Product dimensions and net weight | Proposed dimensions and estimated net weight | Actual sample dimensions and measured net weight |
| Packing and outer carton | Proposed insert, separation and carton size | Approved packing layout and measured outer dimensions |
| Packed actual weight | Planning estimate | Weight of the complete packed parcel |
| Carrier chargeable basis | Illustrative comparison only | Applicable divisor, rounding, service acceptance and quotation confirmed with the carrier |
Agree protection around the actual object
Review surface protection, individual separation, cushioning and the outer carton around the sample. Open forms and projecting corners need a packing arrangement that supports the agreed design. Where a box has a removable lid, review separation between lid and body.
For a mixed carton, confirm the arrangement of all included pieces before measuring the final carton. Packing photographs are process references; they are not evidence that a particular design has passed a transit test or a guarantee against breakage.
Use volumetric weight as a planning calculation
The existing shipping guide illustrates volumetric weight using outer carton length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 5,000. With a proposed carton of 23 × 18 × 11 cm, the calculation is 4,554 ÷ 5,000 = 0.9108 kg, approximately 0.91 kg.
This is an illustrative calculation, not a measured parcel or freight quote. Carriers may apply different divisors, rounding rules and service conditions. Confirm the applicable method and the comparison with packed actual weight for the selected carrier, route and service.
Prepare the information for a shipping review
Provide the destination, delivery postcode, quantity, number of parcels and confirmed packed measurements when available. Identify a single sample, a mixed carton or a larger combined order so the transport options can be reviewed on the same basis.
Courier, consolidated transport and LCL are options for assessment, not promises that every service accepts every object or that one method is always cheaper. Freight, duties, delivery terms and timing require the project quotation and carrier confirmation.
A lidded object such as the Round Vault box reference needs the lid, body and protection included in the final packing measurement.
Questions before sampling
Are the website packing figures final shipping charges?
No. The reference figures are planning estimates. Final charges depend on the measured packed parcel and the chosen carrier’s quotation, applicable divisor, rounding and service conditions.
Does protective packing guarantee zero breakage?
No. Review the packing against the physical sample and intended route, and agree any required testing or shipping terms separately. Process photographs do not establish a guaranteed transport outcome.
