A Project Brief for Custom Stone Objects

A useful custom stone brief starts with the object’s purpose. Tell DeHong Stone what you want to display, hold or present, then share the reference and constraints that matter to your project. A finished drawing is helpful, but you can also begin with an idea or a photograph.

General project guidance · Confirm material, feasibility and requirements with the sample and quotation.

Start with the intended use

Describe the setting and the item that will touch the stone. A perfume display base, a jewellery tray and a guest key rest need different discussions about footprint, recesses, cleaning and contact protection.

For a display base, include the displayed item’s base dimensions and filled weight when available. For a tray or box, list the contents and the usable space they need. Tell us whether the object is decorative, used around liquids or expected to meet a particular test requirement. Suitability is reviewed rather than assumed.

Show the idea from more than one angle

Send reference images, a sketch, a drawing or a description of the features you want to retain. Identify the important outline, recess, divider, lid or branding area. Mark which details are essential and which may be developed during review.

Use references you have permission to share. If a physical sample would explain the project better, arrange delivery with the team before sending it. Website references show design or processing directions; they are not a ready-stock catalogue.

Separate design targets from confirmed details

List target outer dimensions and any dimensions that control fit, such as a bottle recess, card slot, liner opening or lid clearance. State the units. Highlight any required tolerances for review instead of assuming one tolerance applies to every shape and material.

Choose a material colour or vein direction from the Stone Library, or explain a different preference. If you require a particular stone type, say so explicitly. A trade name or reference photograph alone does not confirm the proposed slab, thickness, finish or performance. Share logo artwork and packaging requirements where relevant.

Include quantity and the delivery destination

Give an estimated quantity per design, material and finish. “Not decided yet” is useful context for an early enquiry. If you want a mixed selection, identify the proposed mix so it can be assessed with the production brief.

Include the destination and any required arrival date. Material availability, sample fees, MOQ, production timing and transport are confirmed for the project; a requested date is not an agreed delivery commitment. Business enquiries are welcome worldwide.

Use the sample to close open decisions

Before approving production, review the material selection, shape, usable dimensions, finish, branding and contact protection. Record the actual sample weight, packing arrangement and final carton measurements when available. Keep proposed figures separate from measured results.

A practical first message is: “We need a [type of object] for [intended use]. Our reference is attached. Target dimensions are [dimensions], the preferred material direction is [description], and estimated quantity is [quantity]. Delivery is to [destination]. Please review feasibility and the next sampling steps.”

Use the Quiet Block display-base reference to explain an intended footprint and display use, then state the changes your project requires.

Questions before sampling

Can I enquire before I have a finished drawing?

Yes. Share the intended use, an idea or reference image and the details you already know. DeHong Stone reviews the brief and identifies what needs clarification before sampling or quotation.

Does a project brief confirm production feasibility or a delivery date?

No. The brief starts the assessment. Material selection, construction, sample requirements, quotation and timing must be reviewed and agreed for the specific project.

Apply the guidance to your project

For a project-specific review, send your intended use, drawing or reference, dimensions, material preference, estimated quantity and delivery destination to DeHong Stone. The team can review which details need sample confirmation before quotation.

General purchasing guidance is not a project quotation or a material test result. Confirm specifications, verification and terms for the selected sample.

Send your intended use and reference.

Include drawings or photographs, target dimensions, a material direction and estimated quantity. We can then review the custom stone brief and what needs sample confirmation.
